Kaisa Ahvenjärvi:
Lost language in Sámi poetry
Most of the Sámi authors write in Sámi, but Sámi literature is also published in Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian. Questions concerning Sámi identity and Sámi language are often discussed in the books written in majority languages. The theme of the lost language is central also in the work of Sámi poet Hege Siri. In my paper I will analyze Siri’s collection et øyeblikk noen tusen år (2009). I will scrutinize the representation of Sáminess and the role of language in the construction of the ethnic identity.
